You Were Correct

Although this is a widely believed fact, what appear to be an elephant's front knees are actually its wrists. Elephants have two knees at the back, with elbows and wrists at the front, exactly the same as other quadrupeds, such as horses and dogs. Almost all mammals have the same basic skeletal structure, being descended from common ancestors.
