Some antelopes do have a set breeding and calving season. Impalas, for instance, normally give birth in early November, which coincides with the first rains. Puku can actually breed and calve at any time of year, and new-borns can be seen even at the height of the dry season. However, as is the case with many animals, puku births reach a peak during the annual rainy season, when grazing is plentiful and there is more cover in which the youngsters can hide from predators.
